General: Interests: Science Fiction & Fantasy

The line between fiction and fact has always been blurry. Today's fiction is frequently tomorrow's fact.

I attribute my passion for science fiction and fantasy to my father. His library of paperbacks fills several rooms. And I discovered many of my favorite authors among those shelves. The cover art fueled dreams of the future. It does, however, make it hard to appreciate man's first steps on the moon when one is impatiently awaiting the discovery of hyper-light drive.

Periodic escape from the stress of everyday life is necessary to stay healthy. The comment has been made that "they", the authors just "make up any old thing." What they write, and dream, helps us explore ourselves and the possible consequences of our deeds in the safety of our favorite chair as we relax.

    Starman
John Carpenter's Starman is a 1984 science fiction and fantasy film directed by John Carpenter which tells the story of an alien from another planet (Jeff Bridges) who has come to earth in response to the invitation found on the gold phonograph record in the Voyager space probes.

The movie was written by Bruce A. Evans, Raynold Gideon and Dean Riesner (uncredited). Bridges was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor. The film inspired a short-lived, 1986 television series of the same name which starred Robert Hays and Christopher Daniel Barnes.
