About Us

Art Kessler was born in Carmel-by-the-Sea, left for several years, and returned to the Monterey Peninsula in the late 1960s. Today he again lives in Carmel where he shares a home with his cats.

After high school, Art enlisted in the Navy, trained as an electronics technician, and went to sea. When his tour of duty ended, he alternated between working as a ship’s navigator and putting himself through college. Eventually he graduated and continued a 40+ year career in electronics and computers in the San Francisco and Monterey areas. In the late 1980s, Art combined his electronics background with his interest in pianos and piano technology and created Kessler Piano Service. The Galleries below have examples of some of those instruments.

Art attended the San Francisco School of Piano Tuning, became an associate member of the Piano Technicians Guild, and took classes in piano technology from Yamaha Corporation of America in Buena Park, California.

Art has attended Yamaha’s renowned Little Red Schoolhouse, their Disklavier Piano Service Seminar, and their Performance Piano Service Seminar. He has also attended technical seminars on modern electronic playback and recording systems with Music Systems Research (PianoDisc) and QRS (Pianomation). Finally, Art recently attended the Renner Academy, a weeklong, grand piano action, master course.

Today Art focuses on maintaining and expanding his piano service business through effective communications with his clients and continued refinement of his technical skills.
